I have treated a handful of patients with Diabetic Gastroparesis. And, Medical Cannabis – either Medical Marijuana or buying CBD Oil – has, in fact, been effective for them.
Does Medical Cannabis help Fibromyalgia? Does Medical Cannabis help Rheumatoid Arthritis?
Medical Cannabis is effective for both Fibromyalgia & Rheumatoid Arthritis. Typical results when patients have a 7 to 9 out 10 level of pain, the pain tends to drop down to a 1 to 3 out 10 level of pain. So, it goes from unbearable pain to more manageable pain.
Both Fibromyalgia & Rheumatoid Arthritis are accompanied by inflammation. So, in addition to CBD, you also need some amount of THC to effectively help the inflammation, and thereby reduce pain. Either high levels of just CBD or high levels of just THC has not been effective for my patients with Fibromyalgia and Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Why do you suggest CBD only for Migraines? Please offer specific reasons with references as to why this is your recommendation?
There are 2 schools of thought as to why CBD helps to relieve Migraine Headaches.
- Migraine Headaches may be due to low serotonin levels. Research shows that Cannabinoids, specifically CBD, prevents serotonin levels from dropping really low and ultimately preventing Migraine Headaches. What’s interesting is that a class of medications – known as Triptans – commonly prescribed for Migraine Headaches also affects the serotonin pathway. Triptans stimulate the serotonin receptors, causing the same effect as the body’s own serotonin.
- Cannabinoids have been shown to have an effect on the Periaqueductal Gray (PAG) matter – an area of the brainstem suspected to play a key role in causing Migraine Headaches.
Would CBD Oil help stay away from statins?
Statins are a class of medications that are used to manage high cholesterol levels. Clinically, my patients with a history high cholesterol who have been on Medical Cannabis – either Medical Marijuana or CBD Oil – on a long-term basis have had to continue to take their prescription medications, like statins, to manage their high cholesterol. Medical Cannabis – either Medical Marijuana or CBD Oil – has not significantly impacted their cholesterol levels.
